Who are Vulcan software?

Vulcan Software is one of the legendary Amiga companies. In 1994 - a time when the Amiga community became smaller and smaller - Vulcan Software started to produce high quality software for our beloved machine. Their first released game was the topview adventure game Valhalla - and the Lord of Infinty, the first ever speech adventure for the Amiga. Designed by Lisa Tunnah - one of the few ladies in the software business - this game was responsible for the huge success of Vulcan Software on the Amiga platform.

A sequel to this game was a must, therefore Valhalla 2 - before the war reached the stores a few months later in the year 1995 and also got many awards. Time Keepers, a complex puzzle adventure, followed in the same year. Another release in this year was Hillsea Lido, an excellent seaside simulation with cute graphics.

In 1996 Vulcan Software released most of their titles. Time Keepers II was the sequel to the first puzzle game, Bograts was a cute platform puzzle game and Jet Pilot their first flight simulation. Also a third part of the Valhalla series was created - Valhalla 3 - Fortress of Eve. Tiny Troops, one of the first realtime strategy games for the Amiga and Burnout, a multi car bashing game which was created in 1997 by Mark Sheeky from Scorpius Software are more products, which were published by Vulcan Software.

Burnout was also the last disk game from them, because the games got bigger, therefore they released their future Amiga titles on the CD medium only. The first CD-only title was The Strangers, a beat 'em up game, followed by Uropa 2 Ulterior Colony, which is a space strategy game.

1998 was the last year, when Vulcan Software was active on the Amiga. A puzzle adventure called The final odyssey was released on CD-ROM followed by Genetic Species, a thrilling 3D Action Shooter with phenomenal graphics, an unbelievable fast 3D engine (even on 020 CPUs!) and excellent designed levels. This game has got so many awards and most people say it's the game of the year 1998.

Unfortunately Vulcan Software stopped their Amiga activities in 1998 and as a good-bye present to all loyal Amiga customers they released the Vulcanology compilation, which contains all 10 games of their mini-series from Valhalla to Burnout. It's a very rare compilation because it was limited to 500 copies, so everyone who got this compilation can be a very happy person.

As so many other former Amiga companies they want to conquer the PC market with new titles and have already 5 promising titles in development and every title will be a game in three dimensions. The fourth part of Valhalla is in development for the PC and Valhalla goes 3D. The graphic engine looks very good, colorful and detailed textures are used and the 3D characters still have the typical old Valhalla style. Really a project to keep an eye onto!

Pure Fear will be a 3D action game, which uses the same 'Mother' 3D engine as Valhalla IV. Caveman Species will be a god game, developed by one of Vulcan's daughter companies - Nomad Entertainment. Their other sub company - Runestone Studios - is working on a war strategy game called Shock Marines. And their last current project is called Galaxostromo. It'll be a space game, but more facts aren't known from this game yet.

The latest news, downloadable demos and more are of course available on the official and excellent designed website of Vulcan Software.
